Zen Around the Clock cooking course, or as a single lesson
A 5-session practical enrichment group course where participants will meet to cook together and learn about the body-soul nourishment connection to create ideal seasonal food from Mother Earth, by applying the 5 elements in Chinese medicine.
The Aim of the Course:
To deepen the participants’ practical knowledge and the connection of each element to its associated season, the flavors, smells, techniques in choosing the cooking method, how to serve, and plate appearance.
During each session we’ll start with a Zen poem that matches the element and season, which helps us connect to the ancient writers and great teachers who wrote in a simple and precise manner how they find this moment for them.
We’ll incorporate meditation techniques around the five elements, sight, hearing, touch, smell and taste, we’ll prepare several recipes associated with the element and at the end of each session we’ll eat together around the table.
Part of the program is also an introduction to and practical experience with a formal Zen meal, which gives everyone the opportunity to observe the ritual in the relationship it has with food.
This ritual takes place in the Zen monasteries and in workshops around the world.
The sessions will deal with the connection between nature, the seasons, and to nourishment that is individually suited to everyone’s tendencies and place of residence.
The sessions will also give us the opportunity to examine the different schools of thought in local nutrition, clean eating, and anthropological nutrition, that enables us to learn and get to know the different customs of ethnic groups and tribes around the world.
We’ll learn to select the best raw ingredients out of the current abundance in the market, reading labels and the importance of paying attention when choosing and preparing the raw ingredients.
We’ll learn the secrets to plating and serving each dish, we’ll connect to the colors and tastes of each element and learn to prepare a balanced meal that contains all the aspects.
The course is suitable for therapists and students learning nutrition and naturopathy and Chinese medicine, to individuals who are healing and finding their path to healing and for those who want enrichment in the connection between consciousness and nutrition.
The course takes place in a Japanese urban space in Tel Aviv, around a knight’s table, for up to 14 people.
The lessons take place on Friday mornings, 4 hours per session, and at each session there are additional guest teachers who give further enrichment in movement, touch, philosophy.
